Carrageen is the perfect antidote to always using processed preservatives derived from chemical sources. That leaves us with the clue as to how carrageen is mostly used. The main source of concern as to whether carrageen might be harmful stems from the confusion of the noun usage. It was previously confused with poligeenan. Now, this is indeed a harmful substance. When treated correctly, it is utilized in medical imaging, a practice far removed from eating every day food.  The rule of thumb also is that poligeenan can never be mixed in with carrageenan. The process used to create poligeenan requires washing at high temperatures close to two hundred degrees Fahrenheit.

But not carrageenan. A simply organic process is used to extract it from seaweed, a natural source which turns out to be not only hugely beneficial for human consumption but also extremely good for the environment as your verifiable carbon buster. Expert and authoritative reassurances have been given to all consumers that carrageenan is extremely safe to eat. In fact, long before the Industrial Revolution, people have been using it as an additive to their naturally prepared foods.
